Filmmaker Deva Katta is back in the business, doing what he does best - directing a Telugu political thriller after a long sabbatical from the genre (Prasthanam and Autonagar Surya being his last in this space). His next, Republic, is getting ready for a theatrical release on October 1, a day ahead of Gandhi Jayanthi. The film, whose shoot was completed earlier this year and is currently undergoing post-production, has a solid lineup comprising Sai Dharam Tej, Aishwarya Rajesh, Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishna.
The Zee group (Zee Studios) has already acquired the film's satellite, television and distribution rights from producers J Bhagawan and J Pulla Rao. Sai Dharam Tej, who plays a district collector in the film, expressed his happiness about the film's release in a tweet that read, "Panja Abhiram from #REPUBLIC is most loved character of which I have played to date. Happy to bring him to you in theatres from October 1st. #RepublicFromOct1st." Subba Raju, Rahul Ramakrishna and Boxer Dina essay supporting roles in the film that is scripted, written and directed by Deva Katta.
Kiran Jay Kumar also shares screenplay credits with Deva Katta. Republic has already struck a chord with audiences with its promotions - be it the arresting first look, the teaser that leaves you curious or the happy-go-lucky college number by composer Mani Sharma. M Sukumar has cranked the camera for the film edited by KL Praveen. Deva Katta is yet to score a full-fledged commercial success after his victorious debut with the buddy comedy Vennela. He had co-directed Baahubali: Before the Beginning for Netflix though the streaming platform had shelved the show and is reshooting it with a different cast and crew.
