Dev Patel, Sikandar Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala’s Monkey Man to have patchwork shoot in India

Dev Patel’s first stint in the director’s chair comes with Monkey Man. The film is inching closer to completion and as the final stages of its production began, the cast and crew landed in India to wrap up the film’s patchwork shoot.

According to a report in news agency IANS, the patchwork shoot will include the sequences of Sikandar Kher and Sobhita Dhulipala. A source also told the portal that the post-production activities of the film we're going on in ‘full swing’ at the moment, and there were only a few small portions to be completed.

The upcoming film is an action thriller set in India and follows the story of a man who recently gets released from prison. Although deeply disturbed by how the world seems to be overrun by money-hungry corporations and morals seem non-existent, he decides to take revenge upon the people who made him incur huge losses in his past.

The film also features Ashwini Kalsekar and Sharlto Copley in pivotal roles. In addition to acting and directing, Patel also serves as a producer on the film. Monkey Man is produced under the banners of BRON Studios, Thunder Road Pictures and Creative Wealth Media.

In addition to being his directorial debut, the upcoming film also marks Patel’s first project as a writer as well. Patel has written the film’s script along with Paul Angunawela and John Collee. The latter two also served as writers on Patel’s film Hotel Mumbai(2018).

Netflix has acquired the rights to Monkey Man, and the film is expected to have a direct-to-OTT release sometime this year.

Meanwhile, Patel is also working on the Wes Anderson directorial, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Dhulipala recently wrapped up Made in Heaven 2 and is awaiting the release of Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Major.
