While we are talking about Gladiator, Joker, Wicked, and many more big-budget giant-sized movies, who would have thought Despicable Me 4 would just enter and steal all their thunder for a moment? The buzz around the fourth part of the iconic franchise is justified considering Minions: The Rise Of Gru earned almost $1 billion at the global box office. The franchise now moves to a new turn in the story with the fourth film that hit the big screen on July 3, 2024. While there are many things in a little over a 90-minute movie, the world will be fascinated to see the Mega Minions, a covert group of 5 Minions who have superpowers but are equally clueless about what to do with them. The internet was obsessing over the fact that they are inspired by Marvel’s The Fantastic Four, and it turns out they weren't wrong.

What Is The Buzz Around Mega Minions About?

In Despicable Me 4, we meet a new team of five Mega Minions who have incredible powers but zero responsibility. Two of these five Mega Minions resemble two very pivotal The Fantastic Four characters: The Thing and Mr. Fantastic. One Minion has a rocky body, and the other has the superpower of being supremely stretchable and flexible. For the uninitiated, The Fantastic Four are Marvel’s first family, a group of individuals who gained their superpowers after being exposed to cosmic radiation. While The Thing has a rock-like body and super strength, Mr. Fantastic can stretch his body to any length and shape.

Now Despicable Me 4 directors Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage have spoken to Entertainment Weekly about the same. They spoke about the old times of the Minions and how they were in search of a master and how that technique needed a change. They further explained what led to them drawing inspiration from The Fantastic Four. "I know for me, I was definitely thinking about simple powers that are very graphic and easily understood. We talked about a lot of things, but I think knowing the amount of screen time we had, which wasn't much, [we went with] very kind of archetypal powers sort of in the vein and the look of the Fantastic Four," Renaud added.

"So their powers aren't exactly the Fantastic Four, but one thing that I like as a comparison to that group is the Fantastic Four powers are slightly goofy ... The Invisible Woman, the fire guy, the rock guy, there's something about it. It works great as a comic, but the visual and graphic sensibility of those powers really lent themselves to the Minions," he added.
