Despatch Trailer OUT: Manoj Bajpayee shines as fearless journalist as he uncovers India's biggest scam

ZEE5 is bringing a new thriller drama, Despatch. Starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role, the film was recently screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The film is now set to release on that streaming platform on December 13. The teaser and posters of Despatch have been creating buzz among fans. Ahead of the release, the makers have shared the captivating trailer today, December 3, earning praise from fans. 

Despatch trailer is out

ZEE5 shared the trailer of Despatch on their social media accounts. The trailer opens with Manoj Bajpayee, who is playing the role of a journalist at Despatch. He is set to unravel India's biggest scam, the GDR 2G scam. In a phone call, Manoj asks if there was theft and a guard was murdered to which the person on the other side of the phone says that the guard died in an accident and they had a press release too. During the process, Manoj also faces death threats which is common for journalists.

Speaking about the scam, The 2G spectrum case was a political controversy in which politicians and private officials of India's United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition government were allegedly involved in the sale or allocation of 122 2G spectrum licenses on terms favoring certain telecom operators.

Manoj Bajpayee on preparing for Despatch role

Speaking about the preparation for his role in Despatch, Bajpayee said, "I have many very close friends who are investigative journalists from Delhi and from Mumbai, people who I have been meeting for many years to really understand the nature of their job...the conflict and the dichotomy that they live with."

Discussing the plot of Despatch, the actor said that it explored the story of organized crime, political corruption, and corporate takeovers. He also added that though its undercurrent is of a thriller the way director Behl has treated it is quite fascinating.

"People are finding the whole approach of not really flowing with the events and focusing rather on those events actually inside the human being inside that character and in the darkness of his own personality which is far scarier than the events which are unfolding," he added.

During a recent interview with PTI, Manoj Bajpayee shared that he hurt his knees while shooting for Despatch.

"This film explores both the inside and outside worlds of a journalist. In trying to navigate these two worlds, my feet sometimes went here and there and in all that, my knee got injured. It's still healing," he added.

Meanwhile, Despatch, directed by Kanu Behl, the thriller film will be released on December 13 on ZEE5. You can also watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
