After the box office success of Dune, Denis Villeneuve will tell the tale of a group of people sent to intercept an alien starship.

Denis Villeneuve did the impossible with Dune, adapting the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, and turning it into a critical and commercial success. The filmmaker will now helm the adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke’s Rendezvous With Rama.
As Alcon Entertainment has acquired the rights to the science fiction novel, Alcon has announced that the film adaptation will be directed by Villeneuve.
Published in 1973, the novel is set in the year 2131 and follows a group of humans who are sent to intercept an alien spaceship that enters the solar system. The expedition is an attempt to make humankind’s first contact with intelligent alien life.
The novel is considered as one of Arthur C. Clarke’s greatest works, alongside the likes of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Villeneuve previously worked with Afcon Entertainments in Prisoners, the 2013 thriller drama starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal and Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Both the movies received rave reviews and won multiple awards.
Morgan Freeman, who previously held the rights to the novel, is also attached to the movie as a producer. Lori McCreary, will also act as producer via their Revelations Entertainment banner.
Villeneuve has a successful track record for bringing great works of science fiction to screen including 2016 movie Arrival starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner which won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing and saw Villeneuve receive a nomination for Best Director.
