Fans who loved Deepika Padukone’s bubbly avatar in Chennai Express are in for a treat. Meenamma is all set to return to the silver screen yet again in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus, in a special appearance in the song, Current Laga Re. The foot tapping song was launched at an event in Mumbai today, which was attended by Ranveer Sing, Rohit and Deepika. During the event, Deepika opened up about her return as Meenamma.

The actress said that she thought Meenamma was an iconic character not just in her filmography, but that of Indian cinema as a whole. Speaking about collaborating with Rohit yet again after Chennai Express, Deepika said that it felt like she was back on the sets of Chennai Express yet again.

“The same team, the same energy, even the character I had to bring to the song. All of it brought back such fond memories and working with him is always fun and amazing. And you think you always see that on the screen”, said Deepika.

During the launch event of the song, Rohit also made a huge announcement regarding the next instalment in his popular Cop Universe of films. The upcoming film in the franchise is Singham Again, and the director revealed that the film would feature the first Lady Singham in the franchise. The director then went on to reveal that the upcoming Lady Singham is none other than Deepika herself.

Coming back to Cirkus, the upcoming film will see Ranveer in a dual role. The film also features Pooja Hegde, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Jadhav, Vijay Patkar, Sulbha Arya, Anil Charanjeett, Ashwini Kalsekar, Mukesh Tiwari, Vrajesh Hirjee,Murli Sharma, Tiku Talsania, Radhika Bangia, Brijendra Kala, Saurabh Gokhale, Ashish Warang, Umakant Patil and Uday Tikekar in pivotal roles. The film, bankrolled under the banner of T-Series, will hit the big screen on December 23, 2022.
