Intimate scenes may prove to be a challenge, even for seasoned actors. So it comes as no surprise that Deepika Padukone felt reservations when it came to intimacy scenes she had to act out in her upcoming film, Gehraiyaan. The actress recently opened up about how she was able to take it in her stride, saying director Shakun Batra had a major role in helping her allay her misgivings.
In conversation with ETimes, the actor revealed that she would not have been able to "submit to the film" in the way that she could if it weren’t for Batra’s involvement. Deepika said that if it had been any other filmmaker, she was sure she would have had disagreements with them when it came to doing some of the demanding intimate scenes.
Elaborating more on those scenes in the film, she said that the purpose of such scenes was not in any way to tempt audiences. Rather, the scenes were necessary to move the film forward as it had to do with what the characters were feeling at that moment, coming from a place of realness and authenticity.
Deepika also talked about how she felt the ability of a director to helm such complex topics in a film did not depend on their age or gender. She felt that it differed from person to person.
Also featuring Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Dhairya Karwa, Naseeruddin Shah, and Rajat Kapur, the upcoming film deals with the themes of infidelity and complexities in adult relationships. The film’s script was written by Batra along with Sumit Roy and Ayesha Devitre.
Gehraiyaan will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on February 11.
