Social media has been abuzz with discussion since the release of the Singham Again trailer. From calling the nearly five-minute-long trailer a short film in itself to talking about modern-day retellings of the Ramayana in the cop-verse, netizens have a lot to say about the Rohit Shetty film. For the uninitiated, Singham Again boasts of an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn in the titular role, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff.

Ramayana-inspired characters in Singham Again

The trailer also revealed which character draws inspiration from the iconic figures of the Ramayana, such as Devgn as Lord Rama, Kareena as Goddess Sita, Ranveer as Lord Hanuman, Akshay as Jatayu, Tiger as Lakshman, and Arjun as Raavan. However, many people were unable to identify which character Deepika was portraying from the epic mythology. Deepika's portrayal of Shakti Shetty, a violent cop, has left many confused about her modern-day adaptation. Some claim that Vibhishina inspired Deepika's character, while others speculate that she embodied Trijata.

For those who may not know, in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, Ravana, the king of Lanka, had a younger brother named Vibhishana. Even though he was a rakshasa, Vibhishana did what was right by turning his back on Ravana and defecting to Rama's side. Prior to his return to Ayodhya, Rama anointed Prince Vibhishana, king of Lanka, following his victory over Ravana.

On the other hand, Trijata is a rakshasi (demoness) whose mission is to protect Sita from Ravana, the demon-king of Lanka, who abducted her. Subsequent Ramayana translations portray Trijata as the daughter of Ravana's brother Vibhishana.

Ramayana-inspired plotline in Singham Again

In the film, the kidnapping of Bajirao Singham's wife Avni by terrorist Danger Lanka forces him to follow the Ramayana.
