For actor Aryann Santhosh, Dear Sathya was his big comeback. The film, which he co-produced and wrote as well, was meant to be his showreel – to let audiences know what he is capable of as an actor. Santhosh chose a story inspired by a real-life incident for his comeback, which was directed by Shiva Ganesh.
“Dear Sathya was initially not meant to be a Kannada film. After my stint on Kannada reality shows, given that I can speak nine languages, I wanted to do something bigger. When I narrated the script to a few people, they all liked it and said it had to be done in Tamil, which boosted my confidence. I met Vetri Maaran, Manivarnan, Prakash Rai Production House. Initially, my character was supposed to be a guy selling electronic goods on the footpath at Paris Corner, right opposite to which is the Chennai High Court. So, the idea began there, but a Tamil film required a bigger canvas, which I was not in a position to put together. And that’s how I brought it to Sandalwood instead. Maybe it was destined to be a Kannada cinema,” Santhosh had said back then.
Dear Sathya is about a food delivery agent Sathya, who is in love with Anjali, a restaurant staff and aspiring air hostess. When Anjali is murdered, Sathya is blamed. Can he clear his name and get Anjali justice? This forms the crux of the story.
In the run-up to the film’s release in early March, Santhosh was quite gung-ho about the potential the film had for him, given that his character had two distinctive shades, one as a lover boy and another as the revenge-seeking angry man. Santhosh had buffed up for the latter portion and even changed his look to suit the mood of the film.
When it released in theatres, Dear Sathya received mixed reviews. While the actors received praise for their roles, the narrative – that of a routine revenge saga – lacked freshness, despite the fact that the film had a double climax.
Dear Sathya is now set to come to OTT this June. In fact, exactly three months after its theatrical release, Dear Sathya is coming to Amazon Prime Video on June 10. The film has music by Sridhar V Sambhram and has Aruna Balraj and Ashwin Rao Pallaki in pivotal roles.
