2024 was a crazy year for cinema. Nothing was obvious. There was variety, and what worked wasn't expected, making it even more thrilling. But one thing we all had faith in and knew would excel was Marvel Cinematic Universe’s only big-screen offering of the year: Deadpool & Wolverine. The film, starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, was one of the most anticipated movies of the year and managed to exceed all expectations.
The movie became a billion-dollar blockbuster in no time at the global box office and continued to rake in significant collections. Said to be one of the most successful films of the year, the Shawn Levy directorial came as a savior for the MCU, which had been struggling to maintain its dominance recently. But did you know the movie almost didn’t happen because, five years ago, the plan didn’t make sense? According to Comicbook, Ryan Reynolds revealed that after Logan and Hugh Jackman’s iconic death scene in it, he pitched the idea of Deadpool & Wolverine to Kevin Feige, but it didn’t feel right at the time. Years later, Jackman agreed to make a comeback.
“Ironically, my first pitch to Kevin Feige five years before was a Deadpool and Wolverine movie, a Rashomon story,” Reynolds said. “So much of these movies is timing. He [Hugh Jackman] had just finished Logan, and it was a beautiful masterpiece of a movie and a screenplay. He didn’t feel like it was right. And I respected that.”

For the unversed, Deadpool & Wolverine earned $1.338 billion at the worldwide box office, including a record-setting $84 million from IMAX formats. On streaming platforms, the movie is also breaking records and setting new ones. While fans demand Deadpool 4, Ryan Reynolds has poured cold water on their hopes, saying he wants to spend more time with his family before diving into another installment.
When asked by Extra about the possibility of Deadpool 4, Reynolds said, "Bite your tongue. I would love that, but there’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one. It just sort of swallows my whole life, and I, you know, have four kids that I wouldn’t mind introducing myself to at some point and spending a little time just walking them to and from school."
The movie stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) alongside Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), and Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), all reprising their roles from the Fox universe. Emma Corrin plays Cassandra Nova, and Matthew Macfadyen portrays the TVA Agent, both marking their MCU debuts.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
