The last time someone made a movie in this genre was the iconic Jennifer Lopez, with Josh Duhamel by her side in Shotgun Wedding. The movie, which opened to mixed reviews, was a quirky story that lacked certain elements that were widely discussed. However, while the Lopez starrer was dramatic on screen, it was equally dramatic behind the scenes. There are many trivia points one can discuss about the movie, but the most intriguing is that Ryan Reynolds was once attached to this project and could have been in Josh’s place. However, things didn't go as planned. 

Ryan Reynolds Was The First Choice?

The drama behind the male lead of Shotgun Wedding was so intense that at one point, the world was curious to know what exactly was happening. Before Josh Duhamel, there was Armie Hammer, who quit the movie after the infamous controversy involving his leaked messages on the internet. But even before these two, there was the Deadpool star who was confirmed to play Tom Fowler in the movie but did not. According to Variety, Ryan Reynolds was not just set to star in Shotgun Wedding but was also set to produce the movie that eventually starred Jennifer Lopez. This was in 2019, but things fell through after that. There are still no reasons given for Ryan walking away from the project. However, the role later went to Armie Hammer, who eventually had to walk away as well, leading to Josh Duhamel being cast.

Talking about starring in Shotgun Wedding back in the day, Ryan Reynolds had said, “I haven’t done a romantic comedy since The Proposal, but I just fell in love with Shotgun Wedding. It’s so refreshing and surprising. I can’t wait to bring it to life with Jason, Todd, Dave, and the great team at Lionsgate.”

Directed by Jason Moore, the film stars Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Coolidge, Lenny Kravitz, and an ensemble cast. The official synopsis for the film reads, “Shotgun Wedding centers on a couple whose extravagant destination wedding is hijacked by criminals. In the process of saving their families, they rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.”
