DD Returns on OTT: You can stream Santhanam's hit horror-comedy right now

Actor Santhanam's latest horror-comedy DD Returns made its digital debut on Friday . Fans of this genre can stream the movie on Zee5 and OTTplay Premium. 

Horror-comedy, Tamil cinema's favourite

It seems patrons of Tamil cinema can't have just enough movies that mix comedy with horror. Such movies struck a rich vein with movie-going audiences in the late 2000s. It probably began with the massive success of Superstar Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi and was later championed by Raghava Lawrence's Muni series. And now Santhanam is also making a killing with Dhilluku Dhuddu movie series.

The first two films in the franchise were both written and directed by Rambhala. This series has effectively turned Santhanam into Kollywood's very own 'scream king.' It's been a consistent box office hit, amassing its own loyal fanbase. However, for the latest instalment, Prem Anand has taken over the directorial reins from Rambhala. The reasons behind this change remain unclear, leaving us wondering if Rambhala will return to lead future instalments.

About DD Returns

DD Returns is backed by Ramesh Kumar under the banner of RK Entertainment. The music was composed by ofRo, while Hari Dinesh and NB Srikanth took care of the action choreography and editing, respectively.

DD Returns marked Santhanam's first release in 2023, and as expected the movie became a hit at the box office. Leading up to its theatrical release, Santhanam promised the audiences that this movie would resonate with families, emphasising that this movie was not just for adults but also suitable for kids.

Based on the trailer, DD Returns seems to have taken inspiration from the cartoon series "The Addams Family." The story unfolds within a castle haunted by the ghosts of an aristocratic family. And these ghosts host game nights, which are not restricted to the deceased. Living individuals looking to make quick money can participate in these games. However, conquering the challenging obstacle course set by the ghosts is no easy task, and it seems that very few have succeeded so far.

Besides Santhanam, the movie also stars Surbhi, Redin Kingsley, Maran and Pradeep Rawat.
