After making his acting debut in Karan Johar's Student of the Year, Varun Dhawan collaborated with his father, David Dhawan, on the box office hit and straight-up comedy Main Tera Hero. The sequel, Judwaa 2, too, became a massive success, and now, with the digital-only release of Coolie No. 1, they have hit a hat-trick on their collaboration. As per the latest reports, the father-son duo will be collaborating for the fourth time.
David Dhawan's 46th directorial film
Pinkvilla reported that the film shoot will begin in 2024 and will be David's 46th directorial effort. The filmmaker has been in constant communication with his writing staff throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and they have now settled on a topic that has him enthusiastic to return to the director's chair. The production of this high-budget comedy/entertainer will begin in 2024. From what the entertainment portal heard from those in the know, Varun is just as psyched as everyone else to return to the comedy genre with the undisputed king of the genre.
Modernising David Dhawan's comedic style
The publication also learned that the story centres on love and music and that the protagonist is set amid a romantic scene, as is characteristic of a David Dhawan comedy. The filmmaker has recruited talented young writers to update his comedic style to reflect modern tastes without losing his signature touch. The source also shared that a formal announcement of the film's release for the holidays is expected shortly.
Varun will wind up filming on the Atlee and Murad Khetani production, provisionally titled VD 18, before moving on to David Dhawan's next film. Additionally, he is in discussion with Shashank Khaitan and Dharma Productions to star in a romantic comedy.
Meanwhile, over a career spanning four decades and 45 films, David Dhawan has amassed an amazing success ratio by embracing new technologies and approaches to filmmaking.
