From Devdas to Parineeta and many others – Saratchandra Chattopadhya’s literary works have been adapted to the big screen for ages. Now, Rituparna Sengupta will be seen as his immortal character Datta. Directed by Nirmal Chakravarty, the film also features Shaheb Chatterjee, Joy Sengupta and others.
Set as a period piece, Datta trailer brings back the retro vibe. On Monday, the trailer was launched in the presence of dignitaries, including filmmaker Shiboprosad Mukherjee.
Talking about the character, Rituparna said, “It is very special to me because Datta is an iconic work of Saratchandra Chattopadhyay. I play the character of Bijoya. It is always special to work with literary characters.”
The film has beautiful songs. The music is composed by Joy Sarkar. Babul Supriyo, Riddhi Bandyopadhyay and others sang the songs.
However, this is not the first time Datta is being adapted to the screen. In 1976, filmmaker Ajoy Kar directed Datta with Suchitra Sen, Soumitra Chatterjee, Samit Bhanja, Utpal Dutta, and others in the lead.
