One of the major talking points in Kannada film circles this week has been the potential release date of Challenging Star Darshan’s next, Kranti. The V Harikrishna directorial, which was launched on Vijayadashami last year, is nearly complete, with only a few songs pending, say those in the know. Although the makers have been tight-lipped about any information regarding the film, since yesterday there’s been a strong buzz that Kranti will be an August release and that the makers have zeroed in on August 11 as the D-day.
There has been no official confirmation of the same, and it is unlikely that the team will release it on August 11, as that would be within two weeks of Kiccha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona and makes it one of several films vying for a spot at the box office that week. As of now, there are two other Kannada films on August 12 – Dhananjaya’s Monsoon Raaga and Ganesh’s Gaalipata 2. Not to forget Aamir Khan’s Forrest Gump remake Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, besides films like Yashoda, Monster, Agent, Sardar, etc.
Another set of fans have been saying that Darshan’s film will release in theatres for Dasara this year, but there again, Dhruva Sarja has booked the September 30 slot for his AP Arjun directorial Martin. The next best bet would be October 5 (Vijayadashami), auspicious and appropriate, given that the film was launched on the same festival a year ago.
Produced by Shylaja Nag For Media House Studio and directed by composer-filmmaker V Harikrishna, Kranti is Darshan’s second collaboration with the duo after Yajamana. The film pairs him with his Bulbul and Ambareesha co-star Rachita Ram. Crazy Star V Ravichandran and Sumalatha Ambareesh also play pivotal roles in the film. The subject of Kranti, which means revolution, focuses on the education system. The film is set to get a pan-India release in five languages.
