Six months after Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested as accused number 2 in the murder of Chitradurga resident Renukaswamy, the Karnataka High Court granted him and other accused parties bail. Darshan, Pavitra Gowda, Anu Kumar, Lakshman M, V Vinay, Jagadeesh, Pradoosh S Rao and Nagaraju R had moved the High Court, after their bail application in the sessions court was rejected. After hearing detailed arguments from both parties, the High Court on December 13 granted the application. Details of the order are still awaited.
Darshan, meanwhile, had been granted interim bail on medical grounds for 6 weeks, as it was claimed that he required surgery on his spine to address some issues he’d been experiencing. The HC bail comes just in time for Darshan, whose medical bail was almost running out and was yet to get surgery done.
Darshan was arrested on June 11 in connection with the death of 35-year-old Renukaswamy, who is alleged to have sent obscene messages to the actor’s ‘partner’ Pavitra. A Darshan fan, Renukaswamy wanted Pavitra to stop creating issues between the actor and his wife Vijayalakshmi. Pavitra allegedly then involved people from Darshan’s inner circle to bring Renukaswamy to Bengaluru.
He was brought to the now infamous Pattanagere shed, where he was tortured grievously and later succumbed to his injuries. Although it remains unknown if Darshan actively took part in the torture, both he and Pavitra were at the shed at the time. Given that Renukaswamy was tortured and, eventually, murdered at the behest of Pavitra and Darshan, they have been named accused number 1 and 2, respectively, in the case.
News of Darshan’s bail has, meanwhile, excited his fans, with #DBossisback trending on social media in no time. While they expect the actor to return to the screen shortly, the conditions of his bail, if any, will decide the future course.
