A month ago, just ahead of the release of debutant director Shashank Soghal’s Daredevil Musthafa’s theatrical release on May 19, OTTplay had reported that the team had finalized its digital streaming partner and that it would be available on OTT on or before 30 days. Amazon Prime Video, we’d said, is where it would land. At the time, though, the team had vehemently denied this development, but as it turns out, we were right all along. Daredevil Musthafa was indeed sold to Amazon Prime Video and it comes on the platform within the 30-day mark. The film, which stars Shishira Baikady, Aditya Ashree, Poornachandra Mysore, Nagabhushana, Prerana Gowda, among others, is now available on the platform, having had a 25-day run in theatres and being declared a ‘harmonious hit’.

Daredevil Musthafa, which is based on a short story of the same name by Poornachandra Tejaswi, is Shashank’s feature length adaptation of the same, for which, he introduced a few extra characters and elements into the narrative. The film, which was a result of crowd-funding, backed by fans of the litterateur’s works, was then presented in theatres by Daali Dhananjaya, with KRG Studios distributing it. Daredevil Musthafa enjoyed a decent run at the box office, buoyed by positive word-of-mouth publicity.

The film is set in a quaint town called Abachuru, with much of the action at the local PU College. Abachuru has a history of Hindu-Muslim conflict that is heightened during the Ganesha festivities. When the college then welcomes its first Muslim student, Jamal Abdul Musthafa Hussain, it brings in a set of dynamic changes. For the largely Hindu populace, the Muslim community and their lifestyle remained a mystery, which Jamal’s entry unravels.

The film is still in theatres and was only this week given tax-free status in Karnataka.
