Daredevil Musthafa on OTT: It’s the end of the road for Shashank Soghal’s film

Daredevil Musthafa is considered one of the best Kannada films of 2023. The film, directed by Shashank Soghal, is based on a short story by late litterateur Poornachandra Tejasvi, which the former adapted into a script for a full-length feature. Set in the fictitious town of Abachuru, where the local PU college’s students are from Hindu families, Daredevil Musthafa explores what happens when the institution welcomes its first Muslim student. Jamal Abdulla Musthafa Hassan’s admission raises eyebrows, considering that Abachuru has a history of Hindu-Muslim conflict that is heightened during the Ganesha festivities.

Presented by Daali Dhananjaya in theatres, the film had a moderate run at the box office, after which it came to OTT on Amazon Prime Video in June. But turns out, it’s not going to be there much longer. Daredevil Musthafa will end its Prime Video run on December 15. At the time of filing this report, the film had another 25 hours left on the streamer. Daredevil Musthafa is not the first Kannada film on Prime Video that had a hybrid deal, as per which it was to be on the platform only for six months. Earlier this year, Orchestra, Mysuru! which was also presented by Dhananjaya had a similar limited stint on the streamer and is currently not available anywhere. Vijay Raghavendra’s Raaghu has also ended its stint on Prime.

Daredevil Musthafa review: A beautiful tale of harmony and brotherhood; but are we really listening? 

The film, which stars Shishira Baikady, Aditya Ashree, Poornachandra Mysore, Nagabhushana, Prerana Gowda, among others, was the result of crowd-funding, backed by fans of the litterateur’s works, which was then presented in theatres by Daali Dhananjaya, with KRG Studios distributing it.
