Damsel, Netflix’s mega YA fantasy venture is almost ready to hit our screens and has dropped its trailer today. The show stars Millie Bobby Brown in a never-seen-before avatar, even when Eleven and Enola are concerned. The young actress will be fighting for survival by the skin of her teeth, thrown as a generational morsel for a vicious dragon by her own cult-abiding Prince husband and evil Queen mother-in-law.
Releasing on March 8, Damsel shows Brown as Elordie, a beautiful and sweet bride-to-be, who is getting married to a Prince. Scared and confused and excited, all the normal emotions for a medieval arranged marriage, Elordie never pays heed to her family or the wise words of Angela Bassett’s character, until it is too late.

Once trapped in marriage like a sacrificial lamb, the trailer shows Elordie being literally carried and tossed off by her deceiving husband, who gently asks her to shut her eyes and trust him. The rest of the trailer then focuses on Elordie’s growing awareness and visions of the past victims, all the strong and change-inspiring women, as the Queen had subtly alluded to in a previous speech, who make it possible for the kingdom to thrive every generation.
Unlike the previous teasers, the monstrous nemesis of the film is finally revealed, being a vicious dragon, that appears more intelligent and crueler than the ordinary fairytale ones. A dark twist on the Princess being trapped in the Dragon’s lair, the film will show Elordie’s evolution, from being a hapless prey in soiled, trailing gowns to a warrior in bare-minimum yet modest clothing.
The film’s trailer equally highlights the double crises Elordie faces. One, escaping the clasps of the ferocious dragon and its nearly inescapable cavernous lair. And two, the golden-mask wearing cult-like group that is determined to sacrifice Elordie to the creature, along with the kingdom’s royalty, ranging from her in-laws to her own newly wedded husband.
