Daali Dhananjaya’s milestone 25th film Gurudev Hoysala, which sees him return to khaki in a hardcore action entertainer, will be in theatres tomorrow. The film, directed by N Vijay Kumar of Geetha fame, pairs Dhananjaya with Amrutha Iyengar and has an emsemble cast including names like Naveen Shankar, Pratap Narayan, Achyuth Kumar, nirudh Bhat, Mayuri Nataraj, Rajesh Nataraj, among others. An Ajaneesh Loknath musical, the film is hitting theatres amid massive competition from three big-ticket releases from other languages, namely Nani’s Dasara, Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa and Simbu’s Mufti remake, Pathu Thala.
Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, the team gave Dhananjaya and producer Karthik Gowda’s good pal Kiccha Sudeep a special preview. Sudeep, whose Singham remake Kempegowda is one of his best loved cop roles, was apparently all praise for Dhananjay and has declared that the Natarakshasa has a hit on hand. Along with a picture of Sudeep with Dhananjaya and Karthik, the official handle of the studio posted, “Baadshah @KicchaSudeep is the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 for #GurudevHoysala and he certifies it a 𝐇𝐈𝐓.”
Sudeep, who was the special guest at the film’s trailer launch, had spoken then about how Dhananjaya had confided in him about having pre-release jitters. The Kannada superstar had then told him that he ought to stop worrying about box office results and focus on his work, because audiences have already accepted him.
The film, meanwhile, is getting a big release in the state and outside of it, including overseas, in Kannada with English subtitles only. Gurudev Hoysala will be in theatres across the US, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, UAE, GCC, Canada, among others.
The satellite and digital rights of Gurudev Hoysala were sold prior to the release, with the team speculated to have recovered much of the budget with non-theatrical sales. Amazon Prime Video has picked up the streaming rights of the film and it is believed that it will drop on the platform only around the 45-day mark, sometime in May.
