The year 2022’s hit Odia romance drama–Daalcheeni–is finally making its digital debut this month through AAO NXT. The movie garnered much appreciation two years back. Not only that, even the romance drama won ‘Best Feature Film’ award at the 7th International Film Festival of Shimla (IFFS) in 2021, after making its first premiere at the event. The movie has been directed by two talented filmmakers–Sisir Kumar Sahu and Peenakee Singh.
The Odia romance drama–Daalcheeni is set to make its digital debut on AAO NXT, on December 28, 2024. Interestingly, you will also be able to watch the movie through OTTplay Premium. Daalcheeni features celebrated Odia actor Partha Sarathi Ray and Suryamayee Mahapatra in the leads.
The narrative introduces Kaushik (Partha), a shy and inexperienced investment banker from Eastern Odisha, who never had any physical intimacy and is still a virgin. He secretly fantasizes about it and finally hires a high-end escort named Marilyn (Suryamayee). They spend a weekend at a secluded resort, where Kaushik experiences his first sexual encounter.
Kaushik is overwhelmed by the experience, feeling more alive than ever before. Marilyn, however, is simply doing her job. After they part ways, Kaushik realizes he's fallen for her, even though he knows their relationship is impossible. He desperately tries to find her but fails, leaving him heartbroken and questioning his future.
Back in 2021, one of the Daalcheeni directors, Sisir Kumar Sahu shared many insights about the Odia movie with City News. While talking about the unique title of the movie, Sisir stated that ‘Daalcheeni’ has been used in a metaphorical way. According to him, people always see a person from their own perspective first. But when they get a clear picture of how the opposite person behaves and what are his/her characteristics when they get closer to them.
Sisir further shared that ‘Dalchini’, in English called Cinnamon, may look like any common bark of a tree, but when people use it in cooking and taste it, then only they get to know about the aroma it gives.
