Daaku Maharaaj Dabidi Dibidi song controversy: Thaman cleverly avoids the blame game

Daaku Maharaaj is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2025, and the recently released trailer has captivated audiences and hiked the pre-release business. A song titled Dabidi Dibidi from the film, featuring Balakrishna and Urvashi Rautela, was released a few days ago. However, the dance steps in the song have become a major talking point, with the general audience expressing dissatisfaction, calling the choreography outright vulgar.

Thaman opens up on Dabidi Dibidi song controversy

A significant point of contention is the scene where Balakrishna slaps Urvashi on the back, which has drawn criticism, even from industry insiders. Thaman, who composed the song, is also facing backlash for the loud tune and unconventional lyrics.

For the first time, Thaman addressed the controversy in a recent interview. He explained that such songs are crafted specifically for Balakrishna’s fans, adding that the actor’s charisma allows him to pull off anything without repercussions. “I am aware of the trolling, but songs like these have been part and parcel of Balakrishna’s career for a long time. You’ll enjoy the song even more when you watch it in theaters,” said Thaman.

Dabidi Dibidi's dance steps come under the scanner

Top Telugu choreographer Sekhar Master is also under fire for the controversial dance moves. At a time when inappropriate portrayals of women are being widely condemned, this song has taken many by surprise. One prominent director mentioned that if Dabidi Dibidi had featured a younger actor or another star, the media would have severely criticized them. However, since it stars Balakrishna, the backlash has been relatively subdued.

Interestingly, the controversy is benefiting the film, as producer Naga Vami downplayed the issue, urging viewers to simply enjoy the song in the context of the film rather than overanalyze it.
