Akshay Kumar’s most recent outing came in the form of Cuttputlli, the Hindi remake of the hit Tamil film Ratsasan. Akshay’s fans seem to have been eagerly waiting to see how well Akshay was able to pull off his cop act in the psychological crime thriller, and many of them took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the same when the film released on Friday.
Not a lot of users were pleased with the film, with many agreeing that it was a step down from the original Tamil film. Some users criticised the film’s slow pace and compared it unfavourably to Ratsasan. They were also unimpressed with Akshay’s performance and Ranjit M. Tewari’s direction.
Even Akshay’s fans could find nothing to write home about when it came to the film, with some of them even imploring the actor to stop doing remakes. Others were less than kind in their reviews, calling Cuttputlli a ‘disaster’ and a ‘boring’ movie. One user even went so far as to say that it was one of the worst films they’d ever seen.
There were, however, a few who seemed to have found some merit in the film. The netizens who liked the film said it was a ‘worthy watch’. One user also praised Rakul Preet Singh’s performance as the female lead.
In addition to Akshay and Rakul, the film also features Sargun Mehta, Hrishitaa Bhatt and Chandrachur Singh in prominent roles. Part of the review of the film on OTTplay reads “Cuttputlli failed to have an intrigue, knowing that it's yet another remake, and it stands by that. The film turns out to be a snoozefest overall, despite having thrilling moments that are supposed to keep you on the edge of your seat”.
Cuttputlli, bankrolled by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh, is available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar.
