Telugu star Naga Chaitanya has made a career playing romantic roles. And his upcoming movie Custody could be described as his coming-of-age film as it marks his transformation from a chocolate hero to an action hero. He released the teaser of Custody on Thursday and judging from the promo, the action hero swag seems to agree with him.

Venkat Prabhu has written and directed the action drama. The film tells the story of a low-ranking police officer, played by Chaitanya. But, his humble position doesn't seem to stop him from fighting for what's right and more importantly what's true. In the teaser, Chaitanya's character describes himself as a man with an "injured heart" and he's willing to go to any extent for retribution. And he's okay to even fight battles for what he believes in. "I know that the death is chasing me but I don't know when will it catch up with me. The weapon I have picked is the truth," tells Chaitanya in a gutsy tone.

And he seems ready to go to any depth to bring out that truth. And Venkat seems to have demonstrated the hero's determination in a scene which requires him to retrieve something from the bottom of a water body.

Custody is arguably one of the intense roles played by Chaitanya. And it might help him to redefine his onscreen image. The last few movies of Chaitanya failed to bring him commercial success. His coming-of-age romantic movie Thank You tanked at the box office. Even though his key supporting performance in Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha garnered a lot of praise, the film itself was one of the biggest disasters at the box office in 2022.

And it seems Custody might give Chaitanya the much-needed break. The film also stars Krithi Shetty, Arvind Swami, Priyamani, Sharat Kumar, Sampath Raj, Premji Amaren, Vennela Kishore and Premi Vishwanath.

Custody will release simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu on May 12.
