The Critics Choice Awards event will now take place on Friday, February 7, 2025 (Saturday, February 8 in India). Chelsea Handler will once again headline the show from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.
The catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles forced a rescheduling of the show from Sunday, January 12, to January 26. The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica will remain the venue of the event.
Lionsgate Play (OTTPlay Premium) will stream the live broadcast in India. At a time when the community is going through a tough patch, emcee Handler has promised an evening that strikes a mix between celebration, respect, and resilience.
The fires that started on January 7 and have burnt huge portions of Los Angeles County have disrupted numerous Hollywood events, including the Critics Choice Awards. The catastrophe hit the entertainment industry's epicentre, destroying thousands of buildings and forcing nearly 200,000 people to evacuate.
The organisers have postponed or rescheduled a number of activities, including award presentations. Not only was the ACE Eddie Awards presentation rescheduled from its original January 18 date, but the American Society of Cinematographers and Producers Guild of America also delayed the announcement of their nominations. Notably, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences postponed both the Oscars voting session to Thursday, January 23, and the nominees announcement to Friday, January 17.
Despite the devastation, people in Los Angeles have united to aid those affected. Organisations including the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the California Fire Foundation, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation are receiving donations, which are helping fund relief efforts. Studios, networks, and record labels have together donated millions to aid the victims.
In spite of everything, the Critics Choice Awards continue to be a highly anticipated event of the season, honouring outstanding achievements in film and television. Conclave, a riveting religious thriller by Edward Berger, and Wicked, a smash hit musical by Jon M. Chu, both received an astounding 11 nominations apiece this year.
