Coolie update: Upendra’s first look from the Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj project revealed

Coolie, the highly anticipated Rajinikanth starrer has been making headlines with its character announcements, lately. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj and his team are now busy introducing the principal characters from the film from the last few days, with special character posters. Recently, the makers took to their official social media handles and revealed the official first-look poster of Upendra, the popular Kannada star who has been roped in to play a pivotal role in Coolie.

Upendra’s look in Coolie is out

Lokesh Kanagaraj and production banner Sun Pictures took to their official social media handles today (September 1, 2024), and dropped the character poster of Upendra. “Kicked to have @nimmaupendra sir joining the cast of #Coolie as #Kaleesha... Welcome on board sir,” wrote director Lokesh, on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. The celebrated actor, who is all excited about his role in Coolie, shared the character poster on his social media post with a caption that reads: “Feeling blessed to share screen space with Superstar Rajni Sir... Thank you Dir_Lokesh”

The celebrated Kannada actor is seen sporting an intense look as Kaleesha in his first look from the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer. Upendra is seen in all-black outfits, with red thread accessories and a black rosary. The actor-director, who sports his signature hairdo and a thick beard in the poster, is seen with a golden hook-like weapon in his hand. From the poster, it is safe to assume that Upendra is playing a grey-shaded character in the film.

Coolie: Here’s what we know

Rajinikanth, who is joining hands with Lokesh Kanagaraj for the first time in his career in the film, is reportedly set to play a negative-shaded role. Along with the superstar and Upendra, Coolie features a stellar star cast, including Sathyaraj, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Shobana, Manjummel Boys actor Soubin Shahir, and others in the pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander composes the music score for the film. Girish Gangadharan handles the cinematography. Philomin Raj handles the editing.
