Coolie character announcements: Lokesh Kanagaraj drops major update on Rajinikanth starrer

Coolie, the action thriller which stars Rajinikanth in the lead role, is one of the most-awaited upcoming projects in Tamil cinema. The project, which marks the superstar’s first onscreen collaboration with hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, garnered the attention of audiences with its promising posters and BTS pictures. Recently, director Lokesh and production banner Sun Pictures took to their official social media handles and announced that Coolie character announcements are gearing up for their release.

Coolie character posters to be out tomorrow

The talented filmmaker and production banner dropped the big update about the Coolie character announcements on social media, today (August 27, 2024). “#Coolie Character announcements from tomorrow 6 PM,” wrote Lokesh Kanagaraj on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. “Mudichudalama? #Coolie CHARACTER ANNOUNCEMENTS from tomorrow 6 PM, Stay tuned for the next one week,” reads the social media post by the production banner, Sun Pictures. The new update came out as a big surprise for the Tamil cinema audiences.

Coolie cast and crew: Here’s what we know

As reported earlier, Rajinikanth is set to play a unique character with negative shades in the film, which is touted to be an action-packed gangster thriller. Sathyaraj, the senior Tamil actor, is reportedly roped in to play a pivotal role in the film. In that case, the project will mark the actor’s reunion with the superstar after a long gap of over 38 years. The duo is reportedly playing close friends in the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial.

Earlier, Nagarjuna Akkineni was approached for a pivotal role in the film. However, the Telugu superstar turned down the offer, and the role eventually went to popular Kannada star Upendra. As per the reports, Coolie also features Shobana, Shruti Haasan, and Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir in pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander composes the music score. Girish Gangadharan is the director of photography. Philomin Raj handles the editing. The Rajinikanth starrer is expected to be released by the second half of 2025.
