When 365 Days premiered on Netflix last year, viewers were shocked. The highly erotic nature of the film, coupled with a poorly written script and bad acting, made 365 Days the most controversial film of 2020 in an instant. Netflix has chosen to go ahead with sequels for the film irrespective of the reviews- the streaming giant has announced parts two and three of the Polish erotic film.

The first film’s plot follows a young Polish woman, imprisoned by a Sicilian gangster, who has one year to fall in love with her abductor. The film received immense backlash for glorifying Stockholm Syndrome and romanticizing sexual assault. However, there was another section of viewers who loved the film so much that it grabbed a spot on Netflix’s daily Top 10 lists in more than 90 countries and was the fourth most searched movie on Google globally last year.

The sequels will revolve around the Polish woman and her abductor trying to start a life together, but the latter’s family ties and the entry of a mysterious man make things difficult. Based on the book trilogy by Polish author Blanka Lipinska, the next two instalments will feature original cast members like Michele Morrone, Anna-Maria Sieklucka and Magdalena Lamparska.

The only difference that the sequels might see in terms of content is that this time, Netflix is creating both movies in-house. This means that a certain degree of caution will be exercised by the streamer in order to eliminate some of the more controversial themes from the first movie.

The production of the second 365 Days film starts this month in Poland before moving to Italy later this year. The two films are shooting back to back, with their release slated for 2022.
