Confirmed: After Thangalaan, Pa Ranjith set for Bollywood debut with top star

Producer KE Gnanavel Raja has given a slew of interviews revealing a lot of exciting details about his upcoming movies, including Thangalaan and Kanguva. And he also revealed that he is also set to bankroll director Pa.Ranjith's next movie, which will mark its directorial debut in Bollywood. 

In an interview, Gnanavel revealed that he has been in talks with a top Bollywood star. While maintaining suspense around the star's identity, Raja emphasized that the Bollywood actor was highly impressed after watching the Thangalaan teaser, and expressed keen interest in a meeting with Ranjith. If all goes as planned, Ranjith will join the league of South Indian filmmakers venturing into Bollywood with impactful films.

Ranjith is one of the strong voices in Tamil cinema. He gained recognition for his realistic and socially relevant storytelling, often delving into the complexities of human relationships and societal issues.

Ranjith's movies could bring a breath of fresh air to the Hindi film industry, which is struggling to reinvent itself to appeal to the evolving cinematic taste of younger and well-informed audiences. 

In the meantime, Ranjith is now busy with the post-production work of Thangalaan. This is the most ambitious film of Ranjith yet and it has already caught the imaginations of the movie-buffs worldwide. 

Earlier, producers revealed a captivating teaser for Thangalaan, leaving everyone awestruck. Based on the teaser, it's safe to say that this film is likely to push the boundaries of Tamil cinema in terms of contemporary storytelling and acting.

The producers have more than once confirmed their intention to submit this movie to the Oscars. 

Thangalaan stars Chiyaan Vikram in the lead role. Set against the backdrop of India under British rule, the film seems to shed light on little-known parts of the country's colonial history. Besides Vikram, the film also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Daniel Caltagirone and Harikrishnan Anbudurai in supporting roles. 

Thangalaan is due in cinemas on January 26, 2024.
