The narrative of the film revolves around Veronica (Deepika), Meera (Diana), and Gautam (Saif). When Veronica asks the new girl in the city, Meera, to live with her, Gautam joins them too as he gets friendly with Veronica. However, things get complicated when love enters their lives and the love triangle adds more complications than they can handle.

For the uninitiated, Cocktail proved to be the breakthrough film of Deepika's career. Her character of a carefree, free-spirited but emotional girl was appreciated by the critics and audiences alike.
Made on a budget of Rs 35 crores, the film grossed Rs 125 crores and became one of the highest-grossing films of 2012. The music of the film, especially the songs 'Angrezi Beat' and 'Tumhi Ho Bandhu' became chartbusters and are still loved by the audience.
In 2022, when on the 9th anniversary of Cocktail, Deepika talked about her character in the film and revealed how it impacted her personally and professionally. She said, "I’ve always believed that while you put a little part of yourself in every character you play, you also carry a part of that character with you forever. And therefore, Veronica will always be one of the most special characters I’ve played on screen; one that changed a lot for me professionally and impacted me personally."
