Duniya Vijay’s second directorial venture, Bheema, is only a week away from its date with audiences and yet, there is very little that he or his team have revealed about the film’s plot and what to expect. It is, of course, a raw gangster flick that’s been censored A, but beyond that they’ve not let anything slip.

Even actor Cockroach Sudhi, who plays a pivotal role in the film that is releasing on August 9 toes the same line, but reveals that he is one of the main villains in the tale. Talking to Kannada Picchar as part of the promotions of Bheema, Sudhi used a Mahabharatha analogy to describe his character in the film. “If Bheema (Duniya Vijay) is the hero, who is his biggest opponent? The first name that comes to mind will probably be Duryodhana, but much before he comes into play, it is his brother Dushasana who sets things in motion. I am the Dushasana in this tale – the Original Bad Boy,” says Sudhi.

In this day and age of pan-India films, is Bheema also following the trend? “Oh no, we are serving a pakka local mudde-koli saru oota. Bheema is a film that is by the people and for the people of Karnataka. We believe in entertaining our audience first. If that is then picked up by the neighbours, then that is a different story,” he says.

The film is the actor’s second collaboration with Vijay. Sudhi had a pivotal role in Salaga, which, was widely thought to bring him a lot of accolades. Yet, despite all the praise that came his way for playing ‘Savitri’ and that the film was a big hit, there was no other recognition for Sudhi. “A veteran actor told me that the biggest reward I could get was the love from audiences. So, when I was the only one from the cast of Salaga to be repeated for Bheema, I jumped at the opportunity,” he says.

Bheema, produced by Krishna Sarthak and Jagadeesh Gowda, also stars Ashwini Ambrish, Dragon Manju, Achyuth Kumar, Rangayana Raghu, Kalyani Raju, Priya Shatamarshan, among others. The film has music by MR Charanraj and dialogues by Maasthi.
