City Hunter will release its trailer soon, by the end of this month in all probability. But manga readers and viewers of its various animated shows already know the basic premise. Thankfully, Netflix has revealed the logline for the film.
The Japanese live-action film follows the adventures of Ryo Saeba, a ‘sweeper’, aka, a sweeper of crime, money, and beautiful women. He runs an underground organization that offers all kinds of services, from bodyguarding to murder.
The only way to coax his service? Either a sincere reason or an interested, attractive female. He runs this business with his partner Hideyuki Makimura, a police officer who wishes to rid the city of crime.
But when Hideyuki is murdered one day, Ryo is forced to honor his last wishes and take the former’s younger, adopted sister Kaori under his wing. A tomboy with a temper and solid personality, Kaori has little patience for Ryo’s skirt-chasing tendencies and does not waste time in knocking him into his place, literally.
As Kaori fills in Hideyuki’s shoes, the two run the business while solving crimes and trying to find Hideyuki’s murderer. With crackling chemistry between them interspersed by fights and arguments, the two cooperate and execute missions in sync.
The film stars Ryohei Suzuki as Ryo Saeba, Misato Morita as Kaori, Masanobu Ando as Hideyuki Makamura, and Fumino Kimura as Saeko Nogami as a police detective who has a mysterious relationship with Ryo.
