Christy release date: When, where to watch Malavika Mohanan, Mathew Thomas’ romantic film, based on a true story

Petta and Master actress Malavika Mohanan’s comeback Malayalam movie Christy has already caught the attention of the audience through its delightful visuals, songs and a sweet story hinted by its trailer. The movie, which also has Mathew Thomas in the lead, is helmed by debutant Alvin Henry and has acclaimed writers Benyamin and GR Indugopan as its scriptwriters.

The film, which had wrapped up shooting last year, is finally gearing up for release and here’s all we know about Christy, which has Malavika essaying the titular role.

What is the story of Christy?

Christy is based on true incidents that happened in its director Alvin’s life. The filmmaker had told us that the real-life incidents were cinematic in a way and that’s a huge reason he decided to choose the story to make his directorial debut.

The film revolves around a teenage infatuation that Mathew’s character Roy feels for Christy, who is much older than him. Set in Poovar, the film traces how Roy broaches this subject with Christy and reveals his feelings for her.

Alvin also said that he had faced challenges while trying to greenlit the film as it had to be made on a big scale but with actors such as Malavika and Mathew, whom he said was his only choice as the Kumbalangi Nights actor’s mannerisms and looks matched his. Christy also has Joy Mathew, Vineeth Vishwam, Rajesh Madhavan, Muthumano, Veena Nair and Sminu Sijo as part of the cast.

The movie, which has Bheeshma Parvam cinematographer Anend C Chandran and Gautham Vasantha as its composer, marks the screenwriting debut of Aadujeevitham writer Benyamin. The writer, who has co-written the script with GR Indugopan, in an earlier interview told us, “This is a new stream for me. Scriptwriting is entirely different from writing novels and stories. So, I wanted to try my hand at that, especially with Indugopan, who has already written a few scripts, being there as support and guide.”

Christy is all set to hit theatres on February 17, along with Basil Joseph, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Niranjana Anoop-starrer Enkilum Chandrike and Lal, Anagha and Niranj Raju’s Dear Vaapi.
