Christy OTT release date: When, where to watch Malavika Mohanan, Mathew Thomas’ romantic drama based on true story

Actress Malavika Mohanan’s comeback Malayalam movie Christy, which had her in the titular role, is gearing up for its OTT release after a short theatrical run. The movie, which is helmed by debutant Alvin Henry, is scripted by noted writers Benyamin and GR Indugopan and is based on a true story.

Apart from Malavika, Christy also has Mathew Thomas, Joy Mathew, Sminu Sijo, Vineeth Vishwam, Rajesh Madhavan, Neena Kurup and Veena Nair as part of the cast. The movie was shot in Maldives and Poovar, Thiruvananthapuram in 2022.

What is Christy about?

The movie revolves around a teenager named Roy, who falls in love with his tutor Christy. After his aunt pushes him to take tuition to help improve his grades, a reluctant Roy finally agrees. However, after seeing Christy struggle with her life – especially after going through a divorce – Roy has second thoughts. But over time, Roy gives her support but also expects their relationship to be much more than that. What happens when he finally confesses his feelings for her?

The movie is based on the incidents that happened in director Alvin’s life. In an earlier interview with us, the filmmaker said, “The incidents that happened in my life were also cinematic. So, it made more sense to choose that as the subject of my first film. I also knew how to picturise my land, inside out, for this movie.”

The movie also has cinematographer Anend C Chandran and music director Govind Vasantha as part of its crew. On roping in Mathew for the movie, Alvin said that the Kumbalangi Nights actor had a lot of mannerisms that matched his.

When and where to watch Christy on OTT?

Christy is all set to begin streaming on Sony LIV from March 10. The movie had released in theatres on February 17.
