From a Mammootty-Mohanlal showdown to the long-awaited OTT release of Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali-starrer, here’s what to look out for

If you have already caught up on last week’s big Malayalam releases – Soubin Shahir’s horror-comedy Romancham and Joju George’s crime drama Iratta, this week also promises to be a treat. The highlight is the showdown between the films of Mohanlal and Mammootty. While the latter’s vigilante crime-thriller Christopher, which is helmed by B Unnikrishnan, looks to continue the megastar’s successful run, Spadikam 4K aims at re-introducing Mohanlal’s iconic character Aadu Thoma to the younger generation of audience who couldn’t watch the movie in theatres when it had released in 1995.

The B Unnikrishnan directorial revolves around the titular character of a cop, essayed by Mammootty, who firmly believes that ‘justice delayed is justice denied’. The police officer, known for taking law into his own hands when it comes to punishing perpetrators of crimes against women, finally meets his match in an antagonist who puts the lives of the latter’s loved ones in peril. The film also has Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha and Vinay Rai.

Mahaveeryar
Release platform: Sun NXT
Starring Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Shanvi Srivastava, Lal and Lalu Alex, this fantasy satire that also has elements of time travel and courtroom drama revolves around today’s legal system holding trial for a crime that was committed by a king centuries ago. The Abrid Shine directorial has Nivin essaying the role of a time-travelling ascetic while Asif and Lal play a warrior-minister and king, respectively.
Spadikam 4K
Release platform: Theatre
Director Bhadran’s re-mastered version of the 1995 superhit has over eight minutes of additional footage. Re-released in 4K with Dolby Atmos format, the film revolves around the strained relationship between a father and son, and how their dynamics evolve over the years. Mohanlal essays the role of Aadu Thoma in the movie, which also has Thilakan, Urvashi, Nedumudi Venu and Silk Smitha.

Attention Please director Jithin Issac Thomas’ next revolves around an insomniac essayed by Vincy Aloshious. The film, which also has Unni Lalu, Premalatha Thanyineri and Vishnu Govindan, is touted to be a romantic drama that also takes a drastic turn. The film is presented by Karthik Subbaraj.
