Megastar Mammootty recently shared a new still from director B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher, which has his titular character leaning on a police jeep outsider the Ernakulam Police Club.
The movie, scripted by Udaykrishna, has Mammootty essaying the role of a police chief who is tasked with solving a series of crimes that also has a personal connection. Christopher, which marks Mammootty’s second collaboration with B Unnikrishnan after Pramani, had completed shoot last year and is gearing up to hit theatres soon.
Mammootty shared the photo, with the caption, “Christopher, in cinemas soon.” This has fueled rumours that the movie will hit theatres on February 9. Apart from the megastar, the investigative thriller also has Tamil actor Vinay Rai making his Malayalam debut as the antagonist.
Amala Paul and Aishwarya Lekshmi will also be seen in pivotal roles for the first time in a Mammootty-starrer. Sneha, who has worked with the actor in Thuruppugulan and Bhaskar the Rascal, is also part of the film, which has Shine Tom Chacko, Dileesh Pothan and Jinu Joseph.
In an earlier interview with us, Unnikrishnan had revealed that the movie is mounted on a bigger scale than his previous directorial Aaraattu. In fact, Mohanlal was approached by the filmmaker and scriptwriter with the script of Christopher first, but decided to do Aaraattu instead, as it wasn’t possible to shoot a movie like this while the pandemic restrictions were in place.
Mammootty’s first release this year, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, had hit theatres a few weeks ago and received critical acclaim. The actor will be following this up with Christopher and the Telugu actioner, Agent. He also has Jeo Baby’s family drama Kaathal – The Core gearing up for release. The actor is currently shooting for cinematographer-turned-director Roby Varghese Raj’s Kannur Squad, which is also produced by the actor’s venture – Mammootty Kampany.
