Chithha is one of the most-awaited films in the OTT sphere. The film took longer than usual to arrive on streaming, for reasons best known to the producers. However, the film is all set to make its digital debut on Disney+Hotstar on November 28.
Chithha was earlier expected to become available for streaming on November 17. An unofficial poster carrying the wrong date for its streaming release created a lot of confusion among the fans waiting to watch it from the comfort of their homes.
OTTplay had conducted a fact-check addressing these rumours . Last week, the streaming platform officially confirmed the digital premiere date for the movie.
Contrary to the current industry practices, Chithha didn't arrive on streaming within four weeks after its theatrical debut. The movie was first released in theatres on September 28 along with several other big-budget movies.
Despite facing formidable competition from other new films, Chithha managed to manage to make a dent at the box office. Even though the film's commercial performance didn't break any collection records, still it was celebrated as a success considering its modest production budget. Also, the theme of the film was very serious and devoid of 'massy' elements to appeal to a larger section of the audience.
Not just in Tamil, Chithha was released in all other South Indian languages. The film also did fairly well in the Telugu states, adding to its commercial success.
Filmmaker S. U. Arun Kumar wrote and directed Chithha, which is based on a true story. The story revolves around an endearing relationship between an uncle and a niece. The film also shines a light on the safety challenges facing young children.
Besides playing the lead role, Siddharth also bankrolled it under his own banner, Etaki Entertainment. The film also marked the Tamil debut of Malayalam actor Nimisha Sajayan.
