Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song

The whole of India woke up to the proud news of director SS Rajamouli’s RRR bringing home the coveted Golden Globe award in the Best Original Song category. The foot-tapping, upbeat track Naatu Naatu, which was composed by MM Keeravani, beat songs of Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga from films to take the honours.

Naatu Naatu also become the first-ever Asian song to win the Award, which was presented to Keeravani by Wednesday star Jenna Ortega. As soon as the winner was announced, the RRR team of Rajamouli, NTR Jr and Ram Charan, who were at the event, got up to applaud the legendary composer as he made his way to collect the award.

Celebs across Indian film industries took to their social media pages to laud the team, especially Keeravani and Rajamouli for their stellar efforts in bringing recognition to the country through their work.

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman was among the first to tweet, calling the moment, “Incredible… Paradigm shift”, before congratulating the team on behalf of all Indians.

Chiranjeevi, Telugu megastar and Ram Charan’s dad, hailed the win as a “historic achievement”. “Naatu Naatu is all about the celebration of music and dance. India and the world is dancing with you today,” he tweeted, applauding the team along with lyricist Chandrabose, singers Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who had on Tuesday thanked Ram Charan for sharing the trailer of his movie Pathaan, also took to Twitter to share his happiness for the Golden Globe win. The Pathaan actor had said on Tuesday to let him touch the Oscars, when the team brings home on for RRR. Guess the recent win is the latest step to that achievement.  

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to Twitter to point out that Keeravani, who had composed the music for his film Kshana Kshanam, had beat pop heavyweights such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna to clinch the top honour at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

Several celebs including Nimrat Kaur, Srijit Mukherji and Rakul Preet Singh also congratulated the teamand expressed how proud they were of the team and their work.

Ponniyin Selvan actor Jayam Ravi, put in words, what a lot of fans are now expecting the team to pull off - bringing home the Oscar award. 

In his acceptance speech, Keeravani, who attended the event with his wife, said that he "was overwhelmed". The composer also said that the award belongs to "SS Rajamouli for his vision" and constant faith in his work. He also thanked Prem Rakshit, singer Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, lyricist Chandrabose, music programmes Salu Sidhartha and Jeevan Babu, along with NTR Jr and Ram Charan, for "dancing with full stamina" for the track.
