Chicken Run 2, or Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is the much-awaited sequel to the original Chicken Run (2000). As a boon from the BAFTA and Academy award-winning Aardman studio and BAFTA-nominee filmmaker Sam Fell comes this feathery adventure with a dangerous nugget scheme. Its trailer was dropped on November 15.
Arriving 20 years after its first film, which became the highest grossing stop motion animated film of all time, Chicken Run 2 will release on Netflix, on December 15, 2023. Chicken Run 2 features an ensemble cast of both original and new actors. While Jane Horrocks (who plays Babs), Imelda Staunton (who plays Bunty), and Lynn Ferguson (who plays Mac) will be reprising their roles, the rest will feature new, albeit starry faces.
Thandiwe Newton and Zachary Levi will lead the project as Ginger and Rocky, while The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey will join them as Molly, Ginger and Rocky’s daughter. The rest of the cast includes Josie Sedgwick-Davis, David Bradley, Daniel Mays, Romesh Ranganathan, Miranda Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Mohammed.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget begins on a note of bliss for the chickens, who have finally escaped Tweedy’s farm and begun settling down. After chicken leaders Ginger and Rocky have a daughter, Molly, they coddle and hide from her the harsh reality of the human world, leading to her catastrophic and naïve departure.
After she is caught and caged at Fun-Land Farms, her parents decide to break in, this time, to rescue her and the other trapped chickens in the most outrageous heist ever. Though the sequel features the same main villain as the original film, it has let Mrs Tweedy, now married to Dr. Fry, evolve from the status of a mere villain to a valuable supervillain of the Chicken Run-verse.
