After a much-anticipated theatrical release last month, Chandramukhi 2 made its digital premiere on Netflix on October 26. Starring Ragava Lawrance and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles, the movie is written and directed by P Vasu.
Chandramukhi 2 is streaming on Netflix in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi.
Chandramukhi 2 is a sequel to the 2005 blockbuster Chandramukhi, starring Superstar Rajinikanth. The first movie was the remake of Apthamitra, starring late movie icon Vishnuvardhan. Apthamitra itself was the remake of the Malayalam cult classic Manichithrathazhu (1993).
Given the rich legacy of the Chandramukhi franchise, the film carried the weight of living up to its iconic predecessors. And it was no surprise that the movie stirred up mixed reactions when it was released in cinemas. The movie was subjected to massive online trolling and inspired countless memes on social media.
"Those who loved Chandramukhi are unlikely to get entertained with the sequel. But if you are someone who does not bother relishing horror comedies made in the same fashion over the years, you might not regret watching it," read the OTTplay review of Chandramukhi 2.
Judging from the trailer, Vasu seems to have taken a formulaic approach to making a sequel movie to Chandramukhi, which enjoys a cult following among Tamil audiences. While Raghava Lawrence takes on the role of Vettaiyan Raja, Kangana Ranaut essays the role of vengeful Chandramukhi.
However, unlike the title suggests this movie does not follow the aftermath of the events that happened in the 2005 blockbuster. This is touted to be a prequel. "If you watch Chandramukhi 2 as a prequel to Chandramukhi 1, you will like it," Vasu said earlier in an interview while requesting fans to watch this movie with an open mind.
Besides Lawrence and Kangana, the movie also stars Vadivelu, Radhika Sarathkumar, Lakshmi Menon, Mahima Nambiar and Rao Ramesh.
