The upcoming Kannada film Gowri is a musical, according to its maker, Indrajit Lankesh, who is launching his son Samarjit as leading man with it. The film is likely to be in theatres shortly and Indrajit has already begun its promotions, starting with an action-packed pre-teaser, which he has now followed up with the first single.

Time Baruthe is a peppy dance number

A little while ago, the team of Gowri launched Time Baruthe, a peppy dance number composed and sung by popular rapper Chandan Shetty. A lyrical video with some visuals of the lead pair Samarjit and Saanya Iyer, as well as the former with Samyuktha Hegde, busting some killer moves has been put in the public domain. While the pre-teaser was a clear showcase of Samarjit’s action prowess, with Time Baruthe he shows that he can bust some mean moves on the dance floor as well.

In an earlier conversation with OTTplay, Indrajit had said that Chandan’s number for Gowri will be one of 2024’s biggest hits. Well, that is up for debate, but what is undisputable is that Samarjit can fight and dance. The question that remains now is, can he act? The answer to that will come when the filmmaker releases the trailer of the film. So far, he has maintained that on account of having studied theatre and acting, Samarjit has come well prepared, which made Indrajit’s work as a filmmaker much easier.

Gowri has an undisclosed number of songs, with Indrajit offering “many” as the quantifiable word for the album. A tribute to his late sister Gauri Lankesh, the film is not based on her life, but tackles a hard-hitting subject, the filmmaker had said, adding that he considers it his best work to date. Indrajit’s wife, Arpita steps in as producer, under their banner, Laughing Buddha Films. Gowri will be a summer of 2024 theatrical release.

Meanwhile, if you'd like to see some of Indrajit's earlier works, all of his films are available on Sun NXT, which you can access with OTTplay Premium's Simply South pack.
