Along with Bobby Deol’s Baba Nirala, actor Chandan Roy Sanyal’s portrayal as Bhopa Swami in Prakash Jha’s Aashram 3 has garnered appreciation after the series was dropped on MX Player in June. The third instalment of the popular series saw Chandan in a deadlier avatar.
Talking about his character Bhopa Swami, Chandan said, “It has been a wonderful journey portraying the character for the different storylines of both the seasons. Thankfully, revisiting my character’s approach for the series hit it off well with the audience. Working with Prakash Jha has been a great learning experience and I’ll always cherish the memories of shooting for this special series.”
The actor also spoke about the love he received from the audience. “I am overwhelmed with the love the audience has poured. It is a memorable journey for me. I had no idea that people would come to love Bhopa so much that ‘Bhopa Swami’ and ‘Japnaam’ would become catchphrases in their everyday lives. It is incredible,” said the actor.
Aashram Season 3 is about the meteoric rise of godmen in India and how people blindly follow them in the name of religion. It depicts a hard-hitting narrative through the fictional story of megalomaniac Baba Nirala, played by Bobby Deol, who continues to exploit women, engage in the drug trade and control the town's politics.
Soon after its release, the third season of Aashram gained popularity. Within two weeks the series was released in 33 countries. Along with all the appreciation, the third part has very quickly and successfully entered the 100MN viewership club within 32 hours of its release in India.
Chandan's upcoming projects include Shehar Lakhot and a few unannounced ventures.
