Chamkila song Ishq Mitaye announcement - Diljit Dosanjh-Parineeti Chopra's musical set to release its first track; it's not crooned by them

Just a day after the premiere date of Chamkila was announced, the makers built up the excitement by announcing the first song from the film. Imtiaz Ali's musical drama, titled Ishq Mitaye, will premiere its first track on February 29, 2024. The makers dropped the announcement on the social media pages with the poster featuring Diljit Dosanjh, who plays the titular role of Amar Singh Chamkila.

Introduction to Ishq Mitaye and Mohit Chauhan's collaboration

Speaking of the song's soundtrack, Mohit Chauhan sings it after a very long break with AR Rahman and Imtiaz Ali. While sharing the announcement, they captioned it in Hindi, which loosely translates as "It's coming with a very different style and quite a colourful mood."

Parineeti Chopra portrays Amarjot, Chamkila's wife and singing companion, in the film.

The story of Amar Singh Chamkila

Imtiaz Ali directed this film, narrating the untold true story of Amar Singh Chamkila, the first rockstar of the masses in Punjab. Chamkila came from humble beginnings, but he rose to fame in the 1980s thanks to his infectious music. Unfortunately, he also angered many people, which ultimately led to his assassination when he was 27 years old. Even now, Chamkila is considered by many to be the finest live stage performance that Punjab has ever given the world. He was also the most popular artist of his day.

With maestro AR Rahman composing the score, moviegoers will once again experience the enchantment of a Rahman-Imtiaz partnership. Diljit and Parineeti's vocal contributions to a few tracks are sure to get people pumped up.

Authenticity and immersion

Accurately depicting real-life settings, the film aims to immerse viewers in the lively and rhythmic realm of folk music from Punjab, taking them to the same rural Akhadaas (live music performances in villages) where Chamkila's voice once roared. Diljit and Parineeti's live performances in the Akhadaas will be the first time the film has ever featured on-location music recordings, capturing the authenticity and energy of the occasion.

Netflix will premiere Chamkila on April 12, 2024.
