Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa, who has been in jail as an undertrial in the case of the death of Chitradurga-resident Renukaswamy, in which he is alleged to have played a major part, was granted interim bail by the Karnataka High Court on October 30. The bail order comes on medical grounds after his lawyers sought surgical intervention for the back pain and numbness in the legs that Darshan has been experiencing for a while.
The Karnataka High Court has allowed Darshan interim bail of six weeks to get the surgery done at a private facility in Mysuru. Medical reports from the Ballari government hospital had recommended that the actor undergo surgery to address the issues he has been facing since being incarcerated. The conditions of the bail are yet to be known.
Incidentally, the actor’s earlier bail application in the session’s court after the chargesheet was filed, had been denied. He had then moved the Karnataka High Court and filed a separate plea for interim bail on medical grounds.
Darshan is accused nr. 2 in the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old fan of the actor, who is alleged to have engaged in a war of words with the former’s partner Pavitra Gowda. Renukaswamy is said to have objected to Pavitra’s relationship with the actor, which was ruining his marriage. He is alleged to have sent obscene images to Pavitra, which became cause for Darshan’s aides to get Renukaswamy to come to Bengaluru.
At the now infamous Pattanagere shed, the actor’s aides are said to have roughed up Renukaswamy so badly, that he eventually succumbed to his injuries. It is alleged that Darshan also took part in the beating briefly.
Darshan was in the midst of the shoot of his next film, Devil, when he was picked up by cops on June 11, after four men with close ties to the actor surrendered claiming to have been responsible for the death of Renukaswamy.
