Sapta Sagaradaache Ello was a film that Chaithra J Achar wanted to be a part of. But when the team revealed the first look of the leading lady – Rukmini Vasanth as Priya – her hopes were dashed. While Chaithra isn’t hung up about only playing lead roles and will do smaller, impactful characters if they appeal to her and the story, she didn’t think that director Hemanth M Rao’s script would have space for her. As luck would have it, Hemanth did write a role for her, but when he approached her for it, she didn’t immediately realize that it was for Sapta Sagaradaache Ello.
The actress, who is currently promoting Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B, which releases in theatres on November 17, says that when Hemanth met her, she thought it was to discuss a whole new project. But as the narration progressed and he repeatedly mentioned Manu (Rakshit Shetty) and Priya and later Surabhi (her character), it struck Chaithra that she was getting to be in the film after all. The beauty of the character, she says, is that although the story revolves around Manu and Priya’s love, Surabhi creates a sense of intrigue in the minds of viewers as to her relevance to the narrative and how the tale ends.
While Chaithra has not revealed anything about her character, she explains that Surabhi is a strong-willed woman who does things the way she thinks is right, which may not be the best way forward. After the brief glimpse of her character at the end of Side A and now, in the Side B trailer, audiences are convinced that she is playing a commercial sex worker, which she has not affirmed or denied. There have been glimpses that appear to be Manu building a new future with Surabhi, but audiences are of the firm belief that the end will be about him and Priya.
