After garnering praise for his short film Chaipatti, which was recently released on Disney+ Hotstar after its success on YouTube, Rai has revealed his next plans. When asked if he’s planning to direct a feature film soon, Rai delighted Chaipatti fans by sharing that his character Detective Boomrah will soon get his own series on a leading OTT platform. “The series is primarily driven by the consistent demand of my listeners to see Detective Boomrah on screen," explained Rai.

Explaining how he ended up as a filmmaker even though his strength is writing, he said, "Venturing into production and direction is definitely a natural progression, but it did not happen out of chance. The plan to take the banner of Kahanikaar Sudhanshu Rai into production has always been a part of our bucket list."

Citing Chaipatti as his first step towards direction, Rai divulged his experience of making the horror-comedy short film. “It was no short of being incredible, but at the same time, it was a great learning experience. While I do not shy away from being a film buff, Chaipatti got me more acquainted with the nuances of acting, direction and production. It taught me a great deal about the processes as well as the challenges involved in filmmaking”, revealed Rai.

Rai’s future projects include a short film titled Sylvester Cottage, which is expected to be longer than Chaipatti.
