Malayalam filmmaker Tinu Pappachan has already managed to create his signature in the industry through his first two movies – Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam. However, his latest film Chaaver, which has Kunchacko Boban and Antony Varghese as part of the cast, will be different from the two.
In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, the filmmaker tells us, “Chaaver is a political thriller. It’s based on Joy Mathew’s script, so it has his style of narration; it isn’t a movie where you have fights from start to end. That said, it has an action mood. The movie makes a political statement.”
The movie has four leads, essayed by Kunchacko, Antony, Arjun and Manoj KU. Sajin Gopu, who had starred in Jan.e.Man and Churuli, and Swaroop of Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam fame are also part of the cast of the film, which wrapped up its principal photography last year.
Chaaver is also bigger compared to Tinu’s previous movies, in terms of its cast as well as story. “It’s not just the biggest film that I have done, it’s a big film otherwise too. It’s made on a budget of Rs 15 crore and it’s one of the bigger movies in Chackochan’s career. Even though it doesn’t have too many fight sequences, the movie has a lot of blocks that sustain the action mood. The story is also set in different terrains and we had to shoot at over 10 locations,” he says.
The team is currently busy with post-production work that is expected to go on for another few months. Chaaver could release in theatres only after the first quarter of 2023.
Meanwhile, Tinu is next set to join the team of Lijo Jose Pellissery’s big budget Mohanlal-starrer titled Malaikottai Vaaliban. He will resume his role as Lijo’s chief associate director in the film, which will go on floors in a week in Rajasthan.
