The upcoming film will be the fifth instalment in the popular CBI film series, which revolves around the investigations undertaken by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer Sethurama Iyer, portrayed by Mammootty. The first film in the franchise, titled Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, hit the big screen in 1988. The upcoming fifth instalment comes almost 15 years after the fourth film in the series, Nerariyan CBI.

Tentatively titled CBI 5, the film will see Iyer get to the bottom of a case known as the Basket Killings. The film is directed by K Madhu, who has also helmed the first four films in the franchise. Returning to pen the latest film’s script is SN Swamy, who also served as a writer on the previous instalments. The film is produced under the banner of Swargachitra Films.

In addition to Mammootty, Mukesh and Saikumar, who also appeared in previous films, will return for the fifth film. It is also being speculated that Jagathy Sreekumar is gearing up to make his return to the big screen with the upcoming film.

CBI 5 also features Renji Panicker, Ramesh Pisharody, Asha Sharath, and Malavika Menon in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s upcoming releases include Puzhu and Bheeshma Parvam.
