Kannada cinema’s Chinnari Muttha Vijay Raghavendra’s latest release, Case of Kondana, has got phenomenal critical acclaim. A mystery thriller from the makers of his earlier Seetharam Benoy: Case No. 18, Case of Kondana, though, despite the good reviews, got off to a slow start, which has been picking up, but not enough in terms of reaching audiences.

The team had not done a lot of pre-release publicity, given the nature of the film’s content, which prohibited them from divulging much, but now that it is in the public domain and has positive word of mouth, they’ve been trying to spread that word even more. During a Galatta Plus interview about Case of Kondana, Vijay addressed his career graph, which, after nearly 60 films has still not given him the level of success he’d hoped for. His success graph has kept his ‘guarantee’ at a very minimal level, which he hopes will improve with every film.

As an actor, Vijay wants to see houseful boards outside theatres playing his films and theatrical runs for a good number of days. And that’s what his well-wishers have also been hoping for him. But when his films release, they do not have the expected reach. Hence, Vijay says that he’s not in a position to be picky about scripts and choose only some to do. As a result, he’s been doing films coming his way, without much filtering, but what he does try within that, is to work with the team towards its betterment and iron out any issues. Every story, says Vijay, has the potential to be enriched.

As for working with the team of Seetharam Benoy, the actor says that it is an honour and privilege when people write stories and characters meant for him. In fact, the original script of Seetharam Benoy does not give his character as much prominence in the narrative as it became eventually. While Vijay wanted the team to stick to that version, when they realized that it would be his milestone 50th, they made relevant changes.
