‘Cannot be more grateful’ - Darshana Rajendran on playing a character of Perumal Murugan in Tamil film, shares BTS pics

Malayalam actress Darshana Rajendran, who is set to headline a film based on acclaimed Tamil writer Perumal Murugan’s work, has shared her excitement about being part of the project. The actress took to her social media handles to share photos with the writer and expressed her gratitude over playing a character from the acclaimed writer’s book. The actress thanked the makers of the film for giving her the opportunity and promised to share more details from the film soon. 

Darshana also shared pictures from the sets, where she can be seen with director Thamizh and her co-actor Darshan, who is playing the male lead. From the first look, the movie is set to be an interesting adaptation of the acclaimed writer’s work, who is known for his thought-provoking yet simple narratives.

This untitled project also marks the sophomore collaboration between Perumal Murugan and the director. While Thamizh’s first Sethumaan was based on a short story by Perumal Murugan, the upcoming film is an adaptation of one of Murugan's novels.

Director Thamizh rose to fame through his debut film Sethumaan and went on to win critical acclaim. He has now associated with Kanaa-fame actor Darshan and Hridyam-fame Darshana Rajendran for this film. Interestingly, the screenplay and dialogues of the film are also penned by the acclaimed writer and is based on a romantic storyline that explores the journey of two lovers from different communities who are forced to face challenges post their marriage. The film is produced by S Vinodh Kumar. 

Speaking of the film, director Tamizh felt grateful that he could adapt the novel into a movie. “It’s a great privilege to have a producer like S Vinoth Kumar, who carries the earnest desire of encouraging and materialising content-driven movies. I am delighted to get an opportunity to yet again attempt something that will be a likeable piece of work for everyone,” he said. The director also added that he is looking forward to a wonderful experience in creating this dream project.

Crew behind the upcoming project

 Deepak is cranking the camera of the film, while Bindhumalini and Vedanth Bharadwaj are the music composers. Kannan will be handling the editing department, while P Jayamurugan is the production designer.
